Company closures show strong seasonality — as you can easily verify in the historical time series below — and, unsurprisingly, June once again marked an absolute low point for the year so far.
With 1,818 company closures, June 2025 was the best June of the last five years, with a drop of nearly 3% compared to 2024.
If we break June’s figure down by province, we see that exactly half of all closures are concentrated in just five provinces: Baleares, Málaga, Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid; with the last two alone accounting for 36% of the total closures that month.
The map above doesn’t add a huge amount of detail, since in as many as 13 provinces the number of closures doesn’t even reach double digits.
Let’s see if for the next instalments I can find the time to include a map that shows closure ratios relative to the total number of companies in each province, rather than absolute totals…
Any suggestions are very welcome in the comments, by the way ;)
Beyond the closures figure, the country’s net company balance remained strongly positive in June 2025, with a total of 6 new companies opened for every company that closed.
The Comunidad Valenciana stands out positively, with +9.5 companies opened for every company closed during June 2025.
Next month we will return with another analysis of company closures in Spain. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed when the article is published, and feel free to leave a comment if you enjoyed it or felt we missed any information you’d like us to cover.
